ILMxLAB and Magic Leap bring the adorable creatures from Star Wars: The Last Jedi into your home in a new mixed reality experiment.
Today, ILMxLAB released Star Wars: Project Porg, our first public experiment in mixed reality storytelling available exclusively on Magic Leap One.
Vicki Dobbs Beck, ILMxLAB executive in charge, and other key spokespeople for Star Wars: Project Porg are featured in a new video which offers a glimpse into our work in mixed reality over the last four years. The team shares exclusive details about the creative process in bringing porgs from movie screens to living rooms across the world via mixed reality, and for the first time online, shares footage of an as yet unreleased mixed reality experiment called Project Hoth.
In Star Wars: Project Porg , users will gain trust and affection of their very own porgs – the fluffy creatures made famous in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. By feeding and playing with them over time, users will have the opportunity to teach their porgs how to navigate real world environments with care instructions from Star Wars’ most meticulous droid, C‐3PO (voiced by Anthony Daniels). Exclusively available on Magic Leap One, users can now invite beloved characters from the Star Wars universe into the comfort of their own living room via Magic Leap’s spatial computing technology. And, for the first time, see porgs in their adorable infancy.
Star Wars: Project Porg is ILMxLAB’s first step towards compelling character connections that unfold over time via mixed reality storytelling. This experiment originally debuted at Magic Leap’s LEAP Conference in October 2018, with additional smart home integrations shown exclusively for the conference.
Star Wars: Project Porg was developed in Unreal Engine 4.
